"The difference between a good plan and a great business is what happens in the space between strategy and implementation. That is precisely where we operate."
Ibrahim Roshdy Elgendy, Founder & Managing Director, Nuathir
In 37 years of running food and retail businesses, our founder has seen excellent strategies stall again and again. The plan was sound. The market was there. The money was there. And six months later, the business looked much the same as before. Almost every time, the cause was one of three execution gaps.
1. No owner
Everyone agrees with the plan in the meeting room. Nobody is accountable for it once they leave. Actions are assigned to departments rather than people, deadlines are "next quarter", and success is not defined by a number anyone tracks.
The fix: if a recommendation cannot be owned by someone, measured by a number and delivered by a date, it is not finished yet. Every action in the plan needs a named owner, a KPI and a deadline, and the owners need to report on them on a fixed rhythm.
2. No follow-through
Week one is energy. Week six is back to business as usual. The daily pressure of running outlets, serving customers and dealing with suppliers pushes the new way of working aside, and nobody notices until the results do not come.
The fix: build follow-through into the calendar. Short weekly reviews of the few numbers that matter, a monthly review of the plan as a whole, and someone whose job it is to notice when an action is slipping and to deal with it, not just report it.
3. No capability
The plan asks supervisors and outlet managers to work in a new way: new routines, new systems, new standards. But they were never trained to run it, so they fall back on what they know. This is the most common gap in fast-growing restaurant groups and retail chains, where promotions often come before preparation.
The fix: treat capability as part of the plan, not an afterthought. Train the people who will run the new way before it goes live, coach them through the first weeks, and check that the new routines are actually being followed on the floor.
Execution problems, not strategy problems
None of these three is a strategy problem. All of them are execution problems, and they are why Nuathir is built around three principles:
- Proximity. We work inside the business, not from the outside looking in. Our consultants are operators first.
- Precision. Every recommendation is specific, actionable and tied to measurable outcomes, not generic frameworks.
- Permanence. We do not exit until the change is embedded, the team is capable and the results are sustained.
That is also why every Nuathir engagement follows the same three phases: Diagnose the business from the boardroom to the shop floor, Design a prioritized plan with owners, milestones and KPIs, and Deliver it alongside the team until the results are locked in.
How Nuathir helps
Whether you are launching a concept, scaling a chain or turning a business around, we stay through implementation, not just the plan. See how our advisory engagements work, and how Nuathir Academy's hospitality diploma builds the operations capability that makes plans stick.
